Still Standing

Original Acrylic, Texture Medium & House Paint on Canvas | 2026

Still Standing began as a different painting entirely. Rather than starting with a blank canvas, I chose to build upon an existing textured work, allowing its history to become part of the finished piece. Layers were preserved, covered, and rediscovered as the composition evolved into a simplified cowboy boot outlined with sculptural texture.

Built through layers of acrylic paint, texture medium, and house paint, this piece celebrates both process and transformation. The raised pink outline creates movement and dimension while soft blue tones contrast against a rich navy background, revealing subtle shifts in texture and color as the light changes throughout the day.

To me, this painting is about resilience. Boots are made to carry us through difficult terrain, collecting marks and memories along the way. By painting over a previous work instead of discarding it, I was reminded that our past doesn't disappear—it becomes part of the foundation for what comes next. My hope is that this piece serves as a quiet reminder of strength, perseverance, and the beauty found in embracing every layer of the journey.
