In this 48″×24″ vertical painting, I built up layers of plaster for sculptural relief, then painted with multiple coats of acrylic. The surface is incised and scraped back to reveal under-layers of blue and rust beneath the dominant magenta and gray-blue fields. 

My work explores the tension between surface and depth - how what we first perceive often masks layers of history, feeling and time. By building the panel with plaster and then carving back into it, I embrace both addition and subtraction: the sculptural weight of material and the ephemeral lightness of color. The bold band of magenta above symbolizes vitality, creativity and the energy of the present moment. Beneath it. the cooler gray-blue ground whispers of memory, introspection, and that which lies just beneath our awareness.
